Theme 1

1. Sense data is the direct result from people’s sensation such as sound, color, harnesses and so on. Russell used these terms to check whether the physical object, which is separated from human’s sensation, independently exists and find what the real subject’s nature is exactly like.

2. Proposition is the description of objects in logicism. It is the statement answered by ‘True’ or ‘False’ and all about object. One proposition can be stated in different way.

Statement of fact is in declarative sentence in utterance. Not only word, statement can be in form of picture, formula and so on. One statement of fact must be based on the other.

Propositions, statement of facts and verbal expression has many differences. Usually one verbal expression can be constructed by many propositions or statement of facts. About the subject of statement, proposition and statement, what ever the subject changed, the meaning of statement or proposition is stable. However, it will always changed when different people use the same verbal expressions.

3. The thing that own specific characteristics can be concerned as definite description, which Russell called it 'the so-and-so'. When we get knowledge of things by definite description, we may at the same time get something about the truth. Although we don’t know 'the so-and-so', we know his or her existence.

Definite description is of high value because it allows people get to know something without the help of truths that is hard to find.

4. Chapter 13 is about how we can know what is true and what is false.
Russell’s definition of knowledge is something that is validly deduced when basing on known premises. During that procedure, valid logical connexion as well as the ultimate premises should be self-evident. Also the coherence can often work as a criterion. When dealing with complex fact, people should treat it as a whole without desperate it into different parts.

Chapter 14 describes metaphysics is not the truth. When acquainting something, people do not need its relation and when acquainting something’s relationship, people do not need to know all relations and its nature. Secondly, about all existent knowledge, it is limited by what people can get to know but not what comes from experience. Finally, when facing different theories people should not deny them totally but find the correct part.

I found a high quality research that is also related to media technology named Unequal Protection of Video Data According to Slice Relevance. It was published in 2011 and its 2010 SCI impact factor is 2.60.

The authors devoted to create method on protecting the video data more efficiently according to various net conditions as well as the video importance. Precisely, they use procedure to firstly classify net environments and the degree of importance that affect video quality to different extents. Then algorithms are created respectively to replay video with different but graceful degradation of the video quality, which forms the hierarchy.

The train of thought in this paper is clear to follow. The main algorithm of Unequal Protection named Proposed Concealment Driven Slice Reordering Algorithm is showed and the authors stated several impact factor. Later, they use experimental ways on different kinds of non-progressive video stream to put theory into practice. The subsequent researches are described at last.

It is of profound meaning for this research. As the number of source of video online is increasing overwhelmingly and the quality is quite different, it is necessary to enhance the tolerance of transiting video through Internet by prolife the efficiency.

  1. You write "Finally, when facing different theories people should not deny them totally but find the correct part". I believe this is a good way to think and a way that encourage diverse or similar interpretations instead of denying them. Depending on the field of study (philosophy, science, etc) you have different beliefs and views, but many of these are related and cohere, as Russell mentions, and could benefit from understanding one another.

  2. What do you think of impact factor. Did you use impact factor to evaluate a journal before? I think impact factor is a good way to choose relevant papers on high quality journals when I only have a general idea and want to read relevant issues under this idea. However, I would not give up a paper that sticks to a particular and specific topic I have already had from lower impact factors journals .
